
AWS has published a new update to D15.1. This specification establishes minimum welding standards for the manufacture and maintenance of railcars, locomotives, and their components, intended for North American railroad service.
Three of the more significant D15.1 changes are as follows:
*Welding procedure specifications with PWHT are now allowed to be prequalified within the limitations of Section 7.
*Welding of AAR M-201 Grade C material is now allowed to be prequalified.
*Clause 5.5.1.3 below regarding fillet weld size has been added:
5.5.1.3 When a fillet weld size has a maximum limit, it shall be specified in the drawing(s), contract document(s), or engineering specification(s).
